Hi Elizabeth,

We have had our hearing boards include the sanctions below in sexual misconduct cases.  Basically, we require counseling & clearance as a part of the readmission from suspension.  Hope this helps.

Professional Counseling and Clearance.  During your time away from campus, and

as a condition of your re-entry, you are required to engage in regular and continuing

counseling with a treatment professional and to comply with treatment

recommendations made by your treatment professional.  You are also required to sign

consent forms allowing all your treatment provider(s) to confirm your attendance at

their sessions, to discuss your progress in addressing issues associated with this

incident, and to share their findings and recommendations with Northwestern’s

Counseling and Psychological Services in connection with the Pre-Return Clearance

outlined below.

Pre-Return Clearance by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).  Prior

to your re-enrollment, you must meet with and be cleared by Northwestern’s

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).  This meeting should occur within

one month of your return to school (i.e., DATE).

Additionally, upon your re-admission to Northwestern, you must also comply with

any and all recommendations made by CAPS and/or your treatment provider(s).

Subject: Sanctions for sexual assault

Hello,

If a student is found "responsible" for a Title IX violation on your campuses (I'm particularly interested in sexual misconduct), and the sanction is suspension for a certain amount of time, do you ever require students to complete some kind of treatment if the student chooses to return to campus after their suspension ends?

If so, what sort of treatment options do you use? For example, for a DV case, I could see a student potentially being mandated to complete a certified batter's intervention treatment and having some sort of recommendation from a therapist/case manager that s/he "successfully" completed treatment. What is there for sexual assault?

Thank you,

Elizabeth
