Hi Holly, Thanks for reaching out and for this important observation! The School and College Organization for Prevention Educators (SCOPE) launched last year and aims to fill such an obvious gap. Our 2012 conference is approaching this October 18-20 and features tracks on sexual assault and intimate partner violence/stalking, as well as keynotes renowned for their work on these issues. Our Advisory Board includes many highly respected sexual violence prevention researchers and practitioners, who served as track coordinators for the conference call for programs. An added benefit to SCOPE is that our mission is based on learning from other areas of prevention, such as hazing and suicide prevention. Therefore, our listserv, webinars and conference draw from multiple perspectives and offer unique ideas and networking opportunities. I hope you and others are able to join us and create a new professional home. Please let me know if you have any questions! Additionally, we would be in full support of organizing a meet up at NASPA (we will not be in attendance at ACPA). Just let us know how to be of assistance. From: Holly Rider-Milkovich [mailto:] Dear Colleagues: I am in the process of submitting program proposals for NASPA and have come once again to the frustrating realization that neither professional organization has a knowledge community, standing committee, taskforce etc., for sexual and intimate partner violence prevention and response professionals within Higher Ed. In other words--there is identifiable "home" for our community of practitioners to connect and network, leverage our expertise and raise the profile of our work nationally, and recognize and award important research and practice innovations in our field area at the two most important professional conferences in the Student Affairs professional world. I'd like to change that! I am wondering if there are any list members who are planning to attend either conference this year and, if so, would you be interested in co-sponsoring a meet-and-greet session or co-authoring a roundtable proposal? I think it would be very helpful for our practice community to be able to maximize our time at conferences to learn form each other and grow our professional networks--especially as we are often working with few of no other colleagues in our work at our institution. Who knows? In time, we may even decide to pursue more formal recognition by NASPA and accrue the benefits of formally organizing that other practice areas already enjoy. Many thanks!
