Job Title: Associate Director, Sexual Assault Services Location: Fairfax Type: Full-Time Open Until Filled: Yes Position Number: FA99Bz Web Announcement: Associate Director, Sexual Assault Services George Mason University, University Life Activities invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Sexual Assault Services. This position works within the context of, and provides leadership for, a comprehensive sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking program for the university. Within this comprehensive approach, attention is provided for a diverse audience with needs along a continuum of care. The Associate Director works collaboratively with campus, community, state and national groups and agencies. The Associate Director's responsibilities include: - Direct programming and development. This includes implementation and oversight of workshops, public awareness campaigns, materials development, and technology for a range of audiences (i.e., students, faculty, staff, and community members). Examples of programming (but not limited to) include sexual assault, healthy relationships, dating violence, and stalking;
- Supervision. This includes supervision of professional staff, graduate students, and student volunteers;
- Student coordination and leadership. This involves working closely with student leaders, student groups, and individual students. It should involve the recruitment, training and coordination of peer educators and peer advocates;
- Assessment, counseling and referral. Individual students may need counseling or advice regarding issues surrounding violence-related issues. This is designed as an immediate and short-term solution, with longer-term assistance referred to other professionals and agencies as deemed appropriate. Additionally, incorporate planning appropriate approaches including linkages with other campus and community offices and agencies for assessment, educational programming, and follow-up services. It also includes providing backup support to staff and volunteers carrying the 24-hour phone;
- Workshops, seminars and training sessions. These workshops will be appropriate for a variety of groups including peer leaders, students, staff and faculty. These may also include discussion sessions at state, regional and national conferences;
- Public awareness. This incorporates campaign materials, from initial conceptual design to final product development, in a range of formats (i.e., brochure, poster, flier, PSA, MS PowerPoint, Web site, and social media);
- Developing curricula. This is conducted as needed, for university classes, workshops and seminars to a variety of professionals and community groups;
- Needs assessment, evaluation and research. This includes coordinating periodic assessments of student's knowledge, attitudes, perceptions and behavior. Methodologies may involve quantitative and qualitative strategies, with linkages to existing offices and departments as appropriate. It also includes collaboration on research-based initiatives relevant to violence prevention services and programs;
- Policy support and development. This involves working with campus and community offices and agencies to implement and support current policies and procedures. It also includes identification of ways of further enhancing meaningful and appropriate policies and procedures;
- Preparation of written reports. This includes internal documentation and reports, as well as the required biennial review of programs and services;
- Media relations. Included with this are working closely with campus media and media serving the larger external community (i.e., local, state and national). This includes print, radio, cable, television and Web-based media;
- Management and organization. Organizing the overall management of violence prevention education programs and services including the supervision of consultants, students, staff, advisory bodies, and resources in the office. This also includes an overall strategic plan with timelines and milestones;
- Funding and institutionalization. This includes the preparation of applications for supplemental funding for specific programs and services and strategies. It may include internal resource allocation as well as external grant funds;
- Coordination with the Campus/Community Coordination Council and other related community coalitions. Linkages with these campus-based and community committees are essential for further promoting shared responsibilities for violence prevention and intervention. This will be particularly helpful with the strategic planning and resource allocation processes;
- Internal coordination and cooperation. This involves close work with a range of university offices and personnel with particular attention to University Life offices, academic departments, faculty, and other staff;
- External collaboration and assistance. This includes work with community offices and agencies including local groups, state agencies, and federal/national agencies;
- Standards of practice for violence prevention and intervention in higher education. This includes knowledge, awareness and support of the standards of practice for campus violence prevention and intervention developed by a variety of organizations including the American College Health Association and the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - Master's degree required; preferably in a social services area or a related field (e.g. health and human services, social work, criminal justice, counseling);
- Experience in a progressively responsible violence prevention and administrative position (minimum of three years is preferred) including supervisory experience;
- Experience with a college student population is strongly preferred;
- Experience working with grants is preferred; and
- Qualified candidates will be subject matter experts in a broad range of violence prevention programs and services, with a proven record of innovative and creative approaches to student health.
