Colleagues, As most of you know, provisions from the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SaVE Act) that would enhance campus primary prevention for the full spectrum of sexual violence - as well as commission a best practices report from the federal government - were included in legislation reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Unfortunately what had been fairly prompt progress on passage of this measure has fallen victim to Congressional gridlock. We are, however, going to be working very hard in the coming week to bring the importance of extending VAWA to campuses to the attention of Congress, and think we can move things forward if everybody comes together and speaks out. One effort is an open letter, being organized by the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence Against Women, from the survivors of campus community sexual violence to Congress asking them to both keep these critically important provisions in VAWA and to move forward with action on it. Please see http://4vawa.org/campus-survivors-letter-to-congress-39550 to learn more about this initiative. THE DEADLINE FOR SIGNATURES IS MONDAY, JULY 16TH BY 8 PM EASTERN TIME. Please consider sharing this opportunity with survivors who you think may be ready and interested in having their voices heard. The letter can be signed fully anonymously, with only a first name, or if a survivor wishes to or has already gone public with their full name. If you have any questions please contact Juley Fulcher at who is coordinating this effort. Thank you in advance for your consideration and support. S.
