Is the Fivers group planning any kind of get-together at this conference? Since I am attending, would love to meet some of you wonderful people while I am there. From: [mailto:] On Behalf Of Ben Atherton-Zeman This week, the folks on the Prevention Team at the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence posted a very thoughtful piece on several list serves. Noting the online enthusiasm about a July 14 “Engaging Men” event (featuring me), they urged folks to also show some enthusiasm for ongoing social change activities, speakers, conferences, local agencies, state coalitions and national groups. Toward this end, I wish to shamelessly plug the upcoming National Coalition Against Domestic Violence conference in Denver, July 21-25 http://www.ncadv.org. The National Organization for Men Against Sexism http://www.nomas.org is thrilled to co-sponsor this conference, which features an incredible line-up of speakers like Lydia Walker. Lydia’s one of the best speakers I’ve ever seen and a mother of the Domestic Violence movement – she has worked in the Battered Women’s Movement since 1981. Author of “Reaching Rural Battered Women,” she’s also one of the speakers that taught me the value of using humor when speaking about domestic violence (along with Ann O’Dell and the late, great Ellen Pence). Lydia is smart, articulate and hilarious – you will become yet another fan of hers if you come and hear her speak. I’m thrilled to be attending this conference to hear Lydia speak. Nor can I wait to hear Heidi Notario-Smull, Dr. Mo Therese Hannah, Olga Trujillo, Dr. Julie Allison, Dara Carlin, Anne Menard, Barbara Paradiso, Linda Osmundson, Ann Turner, Susan McGee, Bonnie Brandl, Olivia Piacenza, Christy Turek, and my mentor Phyllis B. Frank. Just to name a few impressive women who I’ve had the honor to hear in the past. Register today as rates go up July 1st! Enter the code “NOMAS” during registration via www.ncadv.org and receive $50 off the current individual Member or Non-Member rate. (*Not applicable to other discounted rates including group rates and WED institutes.) I hope to see you in Denver!
