Hello-
My name is Sharonda Glover and I work with A Long Walk  Home, a 501 (c) non-profit that uses art therapy and the visual and performing arts to end violence against girls and women. ALWH features the testimonies and art by survivors and their allies in order to provide safe and entertaining forums through which the public can learn about healing from and preventing gender violence.

This year we are launching a freshman orientation workshop to aid universities in how to help students understand healthy relationships.

The freshman orientations workshops includes:

  1. Modified workshop for diverse populations
  2. Varied teaching methods
  3. Interactive activities
  4. Opportunities to practice skills

Main workshop components:

Community Response

  • Introduce students to effective policies and practices to prevent and respond to violence against women
  • Introduce students to programs/services that address a demonstrated need in their specific community by providing services that promote the dignity and self-sufficiency of victims, improves their access resources, and creates options for victims seeking safety from perpetrator violence

Prevention and Education Program

  • Discusses "bystander intervention strategies"
  • Utilizing art therapy to aid in bystander intervention and survivor tactics
  • Give training support and additional resources to college students about on-campus anti-violence organizations
  • Extend diversity and popular culture literacy in anti-violence programs
Attached is our official catalog with our other workshops and performances.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best Regards,
Sharonda

Does anyone have any good out-side speakers, or group of speakers that they would recommend for New Student Orientation? We got away from SexSignals a few years ago, but would like to bring back outside speakers/speaking groups (that aren’t SexSignals) to talk about sexual assault, relationship violence, how to have a healthy relationship, bystander intervention, and the difficult relationship between sexual relations and alcohol. If you have an idea or have had a particularly good experience with one please let me know.
