Hi Laura,

While our program at UC Irvine is not evidence based, it has been very well received by the Greek community on campus. Here is a link to a video with student testimonials talking about the UCI Greek Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Program: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EaUASIvamI&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Below is more information on what the program entails. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

CARE's Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Program is an organization of representatives from the UC Irvine Greek Community who are committed to addressing the issues of rape, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking on our campus.

The VIP Program was founded on the idea that Greeks can come together in their community to educate themselves on these topics and provide support to their chapter members.  Representatives from each fraternity and sorority (VIP Chairs) facilitate various awareness programs for their chapter members and for the UCI Greek Community as a whole.

As a VIP Chair, you get:

  • Training by campus and community professionals
  • Practical experience in counseling and educational programming
  • Opportunities to help others
  • Important knowledge and skills valued by top graduate school programs
  • Public speaking and leadership opportunities
  • Personal growth and empowerment
  • Opportunities to serve as a central resource for your chapter and the Greek community as a whole
  • To participate in an annual retreat
  • To facilitate awareness workshops for your chapter
  • To assist in campus wide events
  • To serve chapter members who have been impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence or stalking.

 VIP Chair Responsibilities include:

  • Attending a Fall quarter retreat to become grounded in the VIP Chair role and become comfortable with the process of preventing and responding to sexual violence on campus.
  • Attending specialized monthly trainings on topics related to sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.
  • A commitment to membership for the full academic year
  • Providing education regarding resources and options to respective chapter members, including: a commitment to coordinating one (1) quarterly CARE workshop to the chapter and providing brief educational tips at each chapter meeting.
  • Serving as a central point of contact in the event of a sexual assault occurrence or a chapter member in involved in an abusive relationship and is in need of support.
  • Helping facilitate referrals to the CARE office as appropriate.

If you have a successful or evidence-based sexual violence education program that has been well-received by sororities on your campus, please let me know. Our Panhellenic Association has expressed a desire for something different that what we're already offering at Northwestern.

Thanks,

Laura
