We focus more directly on primary prevention, so we do not have such a program.

Hello:
I am curious to hear if anyone is currently promoting use of such an app on their campus?
Thanks,
Liza

Subject: Request for feedback
Hi folks,
James Medina developed an app (prior to the VP's contest) and is still polishing it up. He is seeking feedback and suggestions, and even though he didn't win the contest, he is still interested in getting the word out about it. I thought I'd posted it a couple of weeks ago, but now I see it never showed up on the list. His letter is below:
Hi Claire,
I just finished a major upgrade to an app that I built to help fight campus sexual assaults. While I plan to charge $9.99 a year for it, as I think that's accessible for college students, but enough that we can make it self sustaining, I'm trying to get people who are involved with fighting campus sexual assault to try it out and get me some feedback, so we're giving a year long subscription away free until the end of the month. I've been in touch with CARE at UCI, and asked them how to get the word out, and she suggested your list serv. I was wondering if you could help me out. I'd also love to be on the SAPC list serv if possible.
You can grab the app here: http://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/realhelp/id403452536?mt=8
What it does, in short is instantly broadcast your location and streaming audio to a whole lot of emergency contacts. It includes pictures, and creates a group chat for other users of the app to coordinate. It works best when other users have either the paid app, or upcoming free receiver app, but you can also send mobile and web optimized links to facebook accounts. If you add enough contacts you can be fairly certain that within seconds of hitting the alert button that someone knows you're in trouble, and will soon be listening. If they totally miss out, then the link takes them to a cached recording of your emergency. So you're still on record. The idea is that in a situation that's not looking good you can hit a button and say "Hey, everything you say and do is now happening in front of dozens of people who care about me and know where I am." The theory is that your friends will come to your aid immediately and that few people want to be on record committing a sexual assault.
If you're so kind as to help me get this out there, feel free to share my email address and phone number (949) 226-1539. I'm deeply committed to this cause, always open to feedback and suggestions, and glad to answer any questions.
Sincerely,
James Medina
