Hi everyone,

I did a multipart poster campaign last spring, you can see the posters and all of the supporting web information here: http://www.oneonta.edu/development/wellness/pairsposters.asp

The posters tell a story from the victim’s (female) point of view, from meeting the abuser (male) to recognizing the abuse to getting away from it. Also featured heavily are her two friends as bystanders working through the stages of change.

We did not have enough evaluation in place. I had prepared an online quiz to accompany most of the posters asking students to identify warning signs or “helping friend behaviors” (prosocial bystander intervention to you and me).

There was zero response on the quizzes even though they offered up a bookstore gift card. So I guess that, in and of itself, is some pretty vital feedback. Once I bearings for this semester (we started classes yesterday), I’m hoping that I can offer this up as a resource to some of our faculty members that touch on violence in their course materials.

When the posters went to focus groups, the students were riveted by the story and so we proceeded forward. It was fairly inexpensive to do, models were paid $50 each, I had a student photographer at no cost, an intern to manage the photo shoot. I did all the graphic layout and the posters were printed here on campus. So in total I put out about $400.

If anyone thinks they can up this a notch, I’m all ears.

Posting on behalf of Paula Adams, health promotion coordinator at Washington State University:

I’m looking for examples of media campaigns  (posters, articles, ads, etc.) used on college campuses to support victims of violence (specifically sexual violence) in seeking services, reporting or other ways – messages that go beyond listing services to actually putting out positive messages about seeking help. Does anyone have examples of these types of messages or materials? And was there any evaluation or write-up of the project?

If you “reply all” the responses will go to both the list and Paula.

Thank you!

Linda
