Hello, friends in the movement! I sent a version of this email earlier to some other lists – sorry for the cross-postings. I still have some room in October (Domestic Violence Awareness Month) and would love to come to your community! However, I know most of you have experienced budget cuts, and have little or no funds for speakers. I offer these suggestions if you want to bring me, or other speakers/performers. www.ovcttac.gov: The Office for Victims of Crime Training and Technical Assistance Center provides all the expenses (flight, ground transpo, food, lodging and handouts), plus $450/day for an honorarium. The online application is fairly simple to fill out – drag down and click on “Applications and Forms,” then “Training and Technical Assistance Application.” If the speaker you want to bring is a TA provider for OVC TTAC and it’s more than 60 days before the event, they are a wonderful resource. (Note: if you’re paying the speaker MORE than $450, you should omit the $450 honorarium from your application to OVC TTAC.) (Note also: they provide funds for violence prevention folks to attend conferences when their agency can’t afford to send them!) NCAA Speaker’s Grant: a huge URL, http://www.ncaa.org/wps/portal/ncaahome?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/ncaa/NCAA/Academics+and+Athletes/Personal+Welfare/Health+and+Safety/speakers_listing If your speaker is listed here, you’re a college with a sports program OR can partner with such a college, NCAA can grant you $2000 towards the speaker’s fee and expenses. If you bring me to your community, I can perform “Voices of Men” as a high school assembly, evening fundraiser, etc. I can also train your staff/Board on how to organize community men (and/or college men) to challenge domestic and sexual violence – a five step process that seems to be working in many communities. Finally, I can train folks on how to use interactive theater for domestic/dating violence prevention. Please contact me soon – I would love to help you do good work in your communities. Please also take a moment to view clips from “Voices of Men” at my website below. Thanks!
