Boise State University invites interested applicants for the part time position of Program Coordinator, to join us in our quest toward becoming a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction. This position will create and implement programs, trainings, and outreach to the Boise State University campus with a focus on learning outcomes. Some of the topics that will be addressed in these outreach efforts include gender equity, masculinity, intersectional identities, sexual orientation, the experiences of non-traditional students, gender-based violence, and the various ways these areas intersect.
This position will work 28 hours per week for 10 months of the year, roughly August through May, though the first year of work will include the months of June and July, 2011.
You will have the opportunity to:
· Co-supervise a new peer education program that focuses on student staff professional development and continuing education in effective social justice models, oppression, privilege, ally development models and pedagogical strategies
· Create collaborative programming with student staff and various campus offices and resources in both Student and Academic Affairs, to promote students’ social and academic success.
· Collaborate with the Director and Violence Awareness and Response Coordinator in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating undergraduate staff, all of whom play central roles in the Women’s Center.
At a minimum you should have:
· A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience.
· A detailed knowledge about one of the following areas and a willingness to become competent in all three:
o How gender interacts with race, class, ability, nationality, etc. and impacts students’ experiences on campus and their access to degrees.
o General knowledge about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and ally (LGBTQIA) communities and the issues facing these communities in higher education.
o Understanding of gender-based violence (sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking) on college campuses and prevention strategies.
· Demonstrated experience , knowledge and abilities in the following areas:
o Designing learning outcomes and conceptualizing, organizing, promoting, and executing trainings and events.
o Planning and managing project budgets.
o Working with a diverse student population and student organizations
o Engaging audiences and creating a welcoming environment
o Supervising and providing direction to staff
o Planning and organizational skills
o Meeting multiple deadlines, handling multiple complex or abstract tasks
o Being detail-oriented and working well both individually and as part of a team
o Strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to craft a clear and professional message
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and cultural competence, preferably through experience working with diverse populations including communities based on religion, race, ability, and sexual orientation.
·Openness to learn and a proven ability to pick up new knowledge and skills quickly.
The preferred candidate will have:
· A Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education/Student Affairs, Gender Studies, or a combination of work experience and education.
· A demonstrated commitment to promoting allies of marginalized communities.
· Strong experience working with LGBT communities as a volunteer or in a professional setting, and knowledge of LGBT issues in higher education, with particular attention to LBT women, LGBT international students, and LGBT students of color.
·
Experience supervising students.
· Experience with the design, evaluation, and facilitation of programs and trainings, particularly with a participatory or experiential dimension.
· Multilingual skills.
Availability: This position will be required to work occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.
Salary and benefits: Salary will be $20,123 to $21,228, depending on experience, paid for work performed over 10 months at 28 hours per week, plus an excellent benefits package including Tier 2 medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, retirement plan, reduced tuition benefits, vacation leave, sick leave, plus paid holidays during the months worked, as well as other benefits.
