At Univ of Delaware we use Alcohol.Edu offered by Outside the Classroom, Inc and in Fall 2010 we began including the added Sexual Assault moduled called "Sex Matters."   It contains information to explain consent, sexual assault, abuse in relationships, and bystander intervention.

I screened the entire module in June last year and provided feedback to the company regarding a few places where the language could be stronger or clearer or improved by changes.  I liked the section on "What is Consent" which explains the role of alcohol, and that an intoxciated person cannot give consent and sex in this case is sexual assault.  To give examples of feedback I provided: there is a section called "how to help a friend avoid a sexual assault" which sounds victim blaming to me -- putting onus of responsibility on the friend not to get raped.  I suggested they change that language.  I also suggested they change language from "domestic violence" to "intimate partner violence" to be more inclusive, and that they add a sentence explaining that abuse can happen in any type of relationship.  If the ability to include local resources is there, I didn't see it, though I was told it was there.  So that's a down side too.& n! ! bsp; A colleague in my office works directly with Outside the Classroom, Inc. and I am told they are very receptive to feedback and want to always enhance & improve their tool.  So hopefully the feedback I shared has been or will be applied.

At UD, all freshmen are required to complete Alcohol.Edu over the first 2 1/2 months on campus.  If they don't complete by the deadline in November, their ability to register for spring classes is blocked until they complete successfully.  In addition to being an educational tool, we get survey data back about our freshmen experiences every year which has been helpful in showing trends and identifying where our programming & educational efforts should focus, as well as giving us data to use on grant applications and to convey to colleagues on campus.

Hope that helps.

Please reply to the whole list about this, if you feel
comfortable doing so.  I would like this information, as well.  It is being
considering on my campus, as well, and I also have concerns.  Thanks!

we are looking for information about online modules for sexual assault
education. our institution is looking to implement sexassault.edu as a
requirement for incoming students and we have some concerns. we are hoping
to provide feedback from other institutions about their experiences with
online modules.

1. does your
campus use online modules for sexual assault education?

a. if so, which module?

2. if your
institution has chosen to NOT use online modules, can you offer some feedback
about your reasons?
