Job Title: Coordinator for Student Development-Violence Prevention
Division: Student Life
Position Reports To: Director of Student Development
FLSA Status: Full time 12 months (salaried employee)
Summary of Position:
This position in the Division of Student Life will focus on prevention and response with respect to sexual and relationship violence involving Elon students. This position will work to promote healthy behaviors among students regarding these issues and will respond when necessary to students in crisis involving Elon students. The Coordinator for Student Development- Violence Prevention will be an integral part in the development of health promotion materials and programs that relate to the consequences of and cultural influences of interpersonal violence. Since this position will also respond to incidents of sexual and relationship violence involving Elon students, there will be an expectation of work after-hours and on weekends when necessary. Administrators and community representatives will be contacted and included appropriately with both response and prevention efforts. The position will report to the Director of Student Development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide 24 hour on call response and advocacy to reports of sexual assault and other reports of violence
· Coordinate University response for survivors of sexual and relationship violence
· Provide leadership and coordination for sexual violence education efforts
· Provide leadership and coordination for relationship/interpersonal violence education efforts
· Assist the director of student development with the SafeZone Program
· Work with the Sexual Assault and Gender Issues Committee (SAGIC)
· Collaborate with campus professionals to implement a comprehensive plan to address sexual and relationship/interpersonal violence
· Collaborate with other campus groups whose mission is to provide personal health and awareness related programs
· Develop programs and learning opportunities which promote healthy relationships and healthy sexual choices
· Advise appropriate student groups whose purpose is to promote gender issues and sexual and relationship health and awareness on campus
· Work closely with CrossRoads Sexual Assault Response and Resource Center to provide victim advocacy services to students
· Work closely with Family Abuse Services to provide victim advocacy to students and coordinate service opportunities
· Work closely with SPARKS! (peer education) to implement programming
· Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality
· Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: none
Education and Experience: Masters Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Higher Education, Student development or related field; 3-5 years full time experience including certification and experience in sexual assault response. Successful candidates will demonstrate awareness of gender issues and other issues associated with acts of aggression and oppression.
Language Skills: Exemplary written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to write proposals, memoranda and professional papers. Must be a proficient public speaker.
Mathematical Skills: Must be proficient in computational skills; must have ability to manage University budget.
Reasoning Ability: Must be able to make reasoned judgments and follow established University Protocols.
Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Must have skills in website design and management
Other Skills Required: Must have experience and training in working with diverse populations. Must possess the ability to take initiative, work and think independently and willingness to contribute to a team oriented work environment. Must also have the ability to articulate gendered violence related needs and concerns form a multicultural perspective to a diverse community of students, staff and faculty.
Physical Demands: Typing on a keyboard. Must be able to drive a car or van. Medium lifting
Work Environment: Intermittent noise levels. Evening and weekend work required
