Dear Colleagues,

For both men and women, my top pick is The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide for Survivors of Abuse by Wendy Maltz.  Her website also has a lot of great information too, like a handout on the difference between healthy sex and sexual abuse that is incredibly useful: http://www.healthysex.com/

For women, I have used  Healing the Trauma of Abuse by Copeland and Harris, which has a lot of general info about abuse but includes several chapters on sexual boundaries, new relationships, and sex after abuse.  The most  LGBT-friendly volume I have found so far is The Survivor’s Guide to Sex: How to Have an Empowered Sex Life after Childhood Sexual Abuse by Staci Haines.  Use your judgment with this one because some survivors find this tome to be a bit too frank for them, but others who are further along in their healing process welcome it.

For youth, I suggest A Teen’s Guide to Overcoming Sexual Abuse by Carter, which covers many topics related to abuse, including sexuality, love and relationships.  I have used some of the chapters for adults too, especially “The Magic of Love” section.  For men, I have heard good things about Mike Lew’s Victims No longer, but I haven’t read it yet myself.

I hope this helps!  Would you mind passing along any other resources you come across?

I am actually looking for the same resources... although right now I'm looking primarily for female survivors.  Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone,

If you know of any good resources or information for survivors (especially male), who are looking to become comfortable with sex and intimacy again, could you please share? I am working with a student now who would be greatly appreciative.

Thank you!

Chris
