There is also a 2005 movie called Human Trafficking with Mira Sorvino and Donald Sutherland. It shows the abuse of trafficked women and girls internationally. One needs a pretty strong stomach to watch it. Christopher Kilmartin, Ph.D. Professor of Psychology Licensed Clinical Psychologist University of Mary Washington 1301 College Ave. Fredericksburg, VA 22401 540-654-1562 chriskilmartin.com From: Foubert, John [mailto:] Shalise and other colleagues, The all male and all female sexual assault peer education groups that I advise here at Oklahoma State University are required to have a bare minimum of 15 hours of training before they ever set foot in front of an audience. I view this as a first step in their training process, with weekly meetings as ongoing training for questions that come up, wrestling with subject matter that arises, etc. I’m more comfortable with having people go through 40 hours of training, or a 3 credit class (like some great places do), but I think 15 hours of pre-service training is adequate. A great resource for sex trafficking is the movie that is now in the final editing stages Sex + Money: A Global Search for Human Worth. It was filmed by a group of 20-somethings who traveled all over the country in an RV to document sex trafficking all over the U.S. (for those of you who know me, you will know why their approach in an RV appealed to me, and no, they were not affiliated with One in Four). I have seen their work and met their producer and believe their movie will be among the best, if not the best, movie ever made about sex trafficking. You can see webisodes from their movie now on their website, which can be great fodder for discussion in training. Just go to their website and click on the webisode link to the right. http://www.sexandmoneyfilm.com/ Regarding training resources, I have recently released all of the training exercises that I use when I visit campuses to do training of men’s and women’s peer education groups in the new book The Men’s and Women’s Programs: Ending Rape Through Peer Education. Among other things, the book includes detailed guides about how to deliver about 25 hours of training on subjects such as Masculinity and Sexual Assault, Femininity and Sexual Assault, Alcohol and Sexual Assault, Rape Myths and the Importance of Bystander Intervention, Rape Trauma Syndrome, Consent, Male-on-Male Rape, Difficult Questions and Difficult Audience Members, Recognizing Rape Myths, Exploring Privilege, Identifying Characteristics of Dangerous Men, Advanced Bystander Intervention Training, Advanced Training on Consent, and Pornography and Men’s Violence Against Women.
