UW-Madison Counselor: Alcohol is State's "Date Rape Drug"

MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - With classes back in session at UW System campuses, efforts resumed to make students be smarter about alcohol.

“I see many students who really do stupid things when they’re drinking,” said Madison alcohol counselor Janet DuBerry says she has seen students do stupid things when they are drinking.

DuBerry calls alcohol Wisconsin’s date rape drug.

DuBerry runs an “Alcohol Smart” class for students who have been busted for boozing. She cites a litany of hazards that go along with over-consumption – passing out on the street or the dorm room, or falling down.

Of course it’s dangerous this time of year if a person passes out on the street on the way home. If they aren’t discovered, they could freeze to death.

Second semester classes on UW campuses resumed last week.
