Genevieve,
I started this message before Beth posted, so I'll go ahead and send it even
though she already directed you to the NCHA.
The relevant question on the ACHA National College Health Assessment (NCHA)
survey is: "Within the last 12 months, with how many partners have you had
oral sex, vaginal intercourse, or anal intercourse?" (Q 19) In the overall
results for Spring 2010, 29% of female respondents reported 0 partners.
Detailed Q19 results are on page 26 of this report:
http://www.acha-ncha.org/docs/ACHA-NCHA-II_ReferenceGroup_DataReport_Spring2010.pdf,
along with results from other related questions.
A note about these findings. The NCHA reference reports do not reflect a
nationally representative sample of campuses, but rather a compilation of
results from all campuses that chose to use the survey in that semester. For
example, the spring 2010 results are from 139 campuses involving 95,712
respondents. The large number of campuses means these results are likely to
be more representative of all U.S. college students than, say, results from
only a few campuses. However, it's worthwhile to scan the institutional
demographics at the beginning of each reference group report to get an idea
of what institutions participated. For example, NCHA results typically
represent primarily 4-year rather than 2-year campuses (120 of the 139
campuses in spring 2010 were 4-year.) The NCHA folks discuss generalizability
issues in greater depth here: http://www.acha-ncha.org/grvanalysis.html. I'm
not saying we shouldn't use the results (we should!), only that we should be
conscious of what they represent when we do use them.
Best,
Linda

Genevieve,
Check out the American College Health Association's NCHA data. It provides

Subject: In Need of a Static on College Women's (Abstinance from) Sexual
Activity
Hello All,
Does anyone know where I could find recent statistics for either of these
two questions:
What percentage of college women were not sexually active in the last year?
What percent of college women were sexually active in the last year?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
Sincerely,
Genevieve
