Three Year Fixed Term Position
Stanford University, recognized as one of the most prestigious and innovative
academic institutions in the world, has an immediate opening for a three (3)
year fixed term position of Assistant Dean and Director, Sexual Violence and
Relationship Abuse Prevention and Response in the Office of Student Life
("SL"), a unit of the Division of Student Affairs (SA). The activities of the
various units of the Student Affairs division traverse both academic and
non-academic areas.
With students as our focus, the Student Affairs division engages with a range
of constituents including faculty, staff, parents, alumni, as well as other
groups in the external community. Student Affairs staff act with integrity in
pursuit of the highest professional standards, as we educate, serve, and
learn.
The Assistant Dean and Director will help to provide a coordinated community
response to sexual violence and relationship abuse at Stanford. The primary
functions of the position will be to better ensure a consistent institutional
victim-centered response based on best practices; to initiate and direct case
management following an incident; and to collaborate with the Violence
Against Women (VAW) grant team in prevention education efforts.
Response (50%)
•Develop a coordinated response utilizing the current crisis response
structure.
•Advise and provide consultation to assist first responders in their response
to victims.
•Develop and monitor centralized communication and coordination of response
efforts to ensure that University offices work together to support students
and to quickly identify and address gaps in services to students.
•Develop and implement periodic comprehensive training for first responders
in collaboration with the VAW Grant Director.
•Establish collegial relationships with on- and off-campus partners.
Case Management (40%)
•Initiate and direct case management following an incident to provide
assistance to survivors and others impacted by an incident; coordinate
communication and response among University offices; ensure proactive
outreach and follow up with victims.
•Serve as the central point of communication about incidents to ensure
comprehensive and consistent responses.
•As needed, meet directly with students to respond to complaints and to
assess satisfaction with case management.
•Coordinate data collection with the Sexual Harassment Policy Office.
•Work with other professionals to develop and implement assessment tools to
evaluate the institutional response to victims.
Education and Supervision (10%)
•Collaborate with the VAW grant leadership, Health Promotion Services, crisis
responders, and student groups to better ensure coordinated prevention
education efforts.
•Serve as a member of the Sexual Violence Advisory Board and help advocate
for best practices.
•Supervise .5FTE administrative support position and student interns.
Qualifications
•Master’s degree plus 5-7 years of experience in the sexual violence field or
equivalent combination of experience (in the sexual violence field) and
education.
•Expertise in domestic violence and sexual violence research and best
practices; experience working with sexual assault and relationship abuse
victims.
•Ability to apply knowledge of sexual violence and relationship abuse
principles, policy guidelines and methods for response with creativity and
sensitivity.
•Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion, sensitivity and
neutrality.
•Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations, without the benefit
of consultation or broad input.
•Ability to strengthen strategic relationships throughout the University and
to tactfully and effectively serve as the coordinator of response services
that involve multiple offices.
•Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse community with a broad range of
people including students, faculty and staff.
•Excellent experience as a trainer; expertise in training models in sexual
violence.
•40 hour training on sexual assault and domestic violence crisis counseling
required.
•Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational
skills.
•Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
