Our Work

Domestic and Sexual Violence Services of Carbon County (DSVS) is a nonprofit organization based in Red Lodge, Montana.  Our work includes direct service provision to survivors of domestic, sexual and teen dating violence, violence prevention education with young people and youth-serving adults, and systems development to ensure the most coordinated and comprehensive community response to violence possible.  Prevention education programming is currently funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (through the Peaceful Pathways:  Reducing Exposure to Violence program), the US Department of Justice (through the Rural Violence Against Women Act), the Montana Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National DELTA Initiative) and others.

 

Job Summary

The Director of Youth Programs is responsible for overseeing DSVS youth education programs. The Director of Youth Programs is a part of the organization’s senior management team, reports directly to the Executive Director, and supervises program staff, volunteers and interns.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Director of Youth Programs include, but are not limited to:

·         Developing, implementing and evaluating progress toward short- and long-term youth education program strategy and goals.

·         Overseeing the creation, development, production, updating, distribution and evaluation of all DSVS education tools, including curricula, videos, public education campaigns, education policies, toolkits and web-based resources.

·         Supervising, setting goals with and for, and reviewing the performance of program staff and volunteers dedicated to youth education.

·         Training program staff and volunteers dedicated to youth education and identifying additional professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers.

·         Cultivating collaborative partnerships and relationships with national and local agencies, community members, volunteers and supporters to further the reach and impact of DSVS youth-focused programs.

·         Overseeing in-person youth education activities, including monitoring their goals and efficacy.

·         Working collaboratively with development staff to support fundraising, media and

communications efforts that further program goals.

·         Remaining up-to-date on research, policy and best practices relating to teen dating violence and youth education.

·         Serving as a public representative of the organization and expert on the issues of domestic, sexual and teen dating violence.

·         Participating in writing program budgets and budgets for special projects and grants.

·         Managing expense budgets for program efforts.

·         Managing data tracking system to measure and report on program outcomes and efficacy to

funders, community supporters and collaborative partners.

·         Preparing reports as requested by the Executive Director.

·         Actively reinforcing organizational culture and agreements.

 

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in education or other relevant field strongly preferred.

·         Minimum of five years experience in education program development, implementation and management.

·         Knowledge of the social, legal, health, and psychological issues of domestic, sexual and teen dating violence.

·         Knowledge of the use of emerging technologies in education delivery strongly preferred.

·         Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills.

·         Strong public speaking and training skills.

·         Strong organizational, supervision, administration and management skills.

·         Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including ability to:

o   Work cooperatively and effectively with other staff, community-based services and other professionals

o   Use discretion to make and implement decisions independently and as part of a team

o   Treat all people with dignity and a respectful attitude

o   Deal effectively with diversity among people

o   Accept, act upon, and offer constructive criticism

·         Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

·         Ability to work with diverse groups of people to build consensus and work effectively as a team.

·         Sound judgment, professionalism and a positive attitude.

·         Resourcefulness, creativity, innovation, strong problem-solving skills and entrepreneurial spirit.

·         Valid Montana Driver’s License and ability to travel to field sites within Montana
