Many of you have asked for an update on the incident with the DKE
fraternity's pro-rape chants at Yale
(http://www.broadrecognition.com/yale-new-haven/the-straw-that-broke-the-cam
el%25E2%2580%2599s-back-dke-sponsors-verbal-assault-on-yale%25E2%2580%2599s-
old-campus/).
As of this weekend, the national organization has suspended DKE's pledging
activities and students have organized a variety of meetings to discuss the
incident and it's affect on their campus. I have not heard if there will be
any administrative action. However, Mary Miller, Yale College Dean, has
publicly addressed the incident
http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2010/oct/16/miller-responds-dke-chants/.
Our Prevention Specialist, Seth Avakian, has written a blog post for
menspeakup.org. http://www.menspeakup.org/ that I thought you might like to
read.
Like those of us at OSAPR, I know many of you were surprised and outraged
when first learning of this incident. I have conveyed our support to our
Yale colleagues and have let them know that this has had a strong ripple
effect, touching people far beyond New Haven. Please be in touch if you'd
like to talk or have questions.
Best,
