Drake student charged in abuse of fraternity brother
August 6, 2010 A Drake University student has been charged with sexual abuse of a fraternity brother, Des Moines
police reported.
Police said the abuse occurred several times, but the victim was unaware of the
abuse until recently.
Anthony Bertolone, 21, of 3212 Forest Ave. is charged with
third-degree sex abuse for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old man and fellow
Sigma Chi member.
Police Sgt. Lori Lavorato said the victim was "obviously
incoherent" when the assaults took place, beginning last fall. She said
there were several assaults.
The Des Moines Register does not identify victims of sexual
assault without their permission.
The sergeant said the victim was unaware of the abuse until he
stumbled across photos and video on a laptop computer. She said the victim
transferred the images to a memory card and took them to police. Detectives
began an investigation on Tuesday and arrested Bertolone on Wednesday.
The victim claims he was drugged when he was sexually assaulted.
The two men had been friends at the fraternity house.
Police have confiscated the computer. In a statement, Drake
officials said they were cooperating fully with investigators.
