ADVOCACY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Women’s Center Rape Prevention Education Program

Summary of Job Duties: 

The Advocacy Support Specialist reports to and works closely with the RPEP director and is an integral member of the UCSB Women's Center staff. The Rape Prevention Education Program provides advocacy and education for the UCSB community. Under the direction of the RPEP director, the Advocacy Support Specialist will be responsible for providing immediate advocacy and crisis counseling for students, staff, and faculty who have been impacted by sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. In addition, this person will serve as a resource and mentor for re-entry and non-traditional students at UCSB. The Advocacy Support Specialist will be responsible for working with the director and student interns to coordinate and present educational programs, develop outreach strategies and materials, and support the general work of the Women's Center and Rape Prevention Education Program.

 

Minimum Requirements:  Certified as Sexual Assault Counselor. Possess specialized expertise and knowledge of the effects of sexual violence on survivors, survivor recovery, medical and legal procedures. Demonstrated experience providing advocacy support to survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking. Experience providing education on topics such as sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and intersecting oppressions. Sensitivity to cultural, racial, ethnic, and sexual diversity. Ability to work as a part of a team and build partnerships. Commitment to activism for social justice. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Note: Fingerprinting required. May be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.   

 

Preferred Qualifications: Certified as Domestic Violence Counselor. Knowledge and understanding of sexual and domestic violence in a college community. Master's degree in relevant field.
