Title: Sexual Assault Advocate

Location: Serving Nicollet County and housed in St. Peter office

Work load: 32 hours per week (part-time)

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications


 

About the agency: Crime Victim Services, Inc. (CVS) is a non-profit agency that provides advocacy services to victims of all crime (domestic violence, sexual assault, and general crime) in Brown County and sexual assault services in Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Sibley Counties. 

 

Position Summary:

The Sexual Assault Advocates of Brown, Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Sibley Counties will develop and maintain delivery of advocacy and support services to sexual assault survivors and their children residing in Brown, Blue Earth, Sibley and Nicollet Counties.  The person filling this position will provide services to other crime victims as needed.  Advocates will assist the Executive Director in promoting positive communications with other agencies and enhancing public awareness of CVS and its programs.  Other responsibilities may include running a sexual assault support group and providing workshops, trainings, and presentations in the local community on issues related to sexual violence, domestic violence, and general crime.  This position may require evening and/or weekend work.  Crisis line shifts during the evening, weekend, and some holidays are required.  Must complete 44-hour sexual assault advocate certification training and attend subsequent in-service trainings. 

 

Requirements and other considerations: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field: human services, criminal justice, social work, women’s studies, or social sciences field.  Experience in the field of victim services and a knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of sexual violence and related issues is strongly preferred.  Bilingual abilities preferred.  Applicants must have the ability to work with people in crisis in a non-judgmental manner.  Must be caring, supportive, a good listener and have healthy boundaries and able to work with both females and males in crisis of any age.  Strong verbal and written communication skills; organizational and time management skills; working knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Power Point and Word, ability to work independently and as a team member; experience in public speaking and public relations.  Must have a valid driver’s license, provide proof of auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.  Must complete and pass a criminal background check.
