Colleagues,
Attached please find the RFP for a conference presented by Pacific
Lutheran University, Men Against Violence: "*Paving a Rocky Road*", *Oct
14-16*. Submissions must be recieved by *June 4, 2010*.
Apologies in advance for any cross postings, but please pass on to
anyone who may be interested in this opportunity.
*Vision*:
The road that women’s movements have paved allows for this conference,
entitled “Paving a Difficult Road: Removing Barriers to Engaging Men,” to
further increase the impact of our current work. The conference will provide
an opportunity for everyone from students, practitioners, researchers and
the broader community to learn best practices in anti-violence work.
Specifically, participants will be exposed to new innovative approaches and
connect with one another, with an eye toward making this a more accessible
journey for “average” men to embark on.
Though more and more men and institutes about men’s involvement are being
offered, this conference will address both increasing male involvement
beyond a few, while getting at the heart of why gendered violence exists –
privilege. We must remove barriers men experience when coming to
anti-violence work and Feminist thought, while creating a road-map for a new
vision of manhood that would empower men to explore masculinit*ies* which
support a just and equitable society, free of gendered violence.
Workshops should include innovative approaches which positively address men
at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels in order to provide skills
and knowledge appropriate for a variety of participants. Workshop sessions
should reflect the vision and goals of the conference and be inclusive of
the range of experience our 300-400 participants will bring with them.
We look forward to receiving your submission. Thank you for all you do and
have a wonderful week.
