Good afternoon everyone.  Below please find a request for information from a
colleague.  Please respond to her directly with any thoughts, comments or
information you may have.

Thanks!!

My thanks in advance for any information colleagues can offer.  I know this
subject can be somewhat sensitive, so people are welcome to reach me
directly at

 or 202-885-3314, whichever is easier.
I am seeking information on practices and especially policies addressing how
a university will proceed if they have a report of a sexual assault or other
sexual misconduct and the victim/survivor states that they do not want a
University conduct process to proceed under any circumstances.  We would, of
course, offer resources, try to create a supportive environment, offer
options, but I know that sometimes victims/survivors do not want a case to
go forward, even if they are not involved.
Does anyone know of a campus that addresses this occurrence in policy?  My
impression in talking to colleagues is that in practice such cases are
nearly impossible to pursue because so much, if not all, of the evidence
rests with the victim/survivor.  While I am interested in practice, I am
also interested to see if anyone knows of a college or university that
addresses this in their written policy.
Again, my thanks in advance and please feel free to contact me directly at

 or 202-885-3314.
Best,
