Rape Prevention Education Coordinator, Women’s Center
The NC State University Women's Center seeks to fill the position of
Rape Prevention Education Coordinator. The NC State Women’s Center is
administratively located in the Division of Student Affairs and
physically located in the Talley Student Center in the heart of campus.
The Rape Prevention Education (RPE) Coordinator is responsible for
coordinating educational programming of students for primary prevention
of sexual violence. This position reports to the Assistant Director for
Interpersonal Violence (IPV) Services. This is a full-time, 12-month,
grant-funded position through October 31, 2011. Schedule will vary and
may regularly include nights and weekends.
Nature of Responsibilities
The Rape Prevention Education (RPE) Coordinator is to work exclusively
on educational programs that prevent sexual violence from initially
occurring within the NC State University community. A strong emphasis
will be placed on conducting and analyzing needs assessments and
performing program evaluations in order to assist in establishing an
evidence-based database of best practices. Focusing more on quality of
programming rather than quantity, prevention programming must engage the
community in multi-faceted strategies and utilize more in-depth
approaches that seek to create a lasting cultural change. Ultimately,
the RPE Coordinator will be a catalyst for change and is not expected to
perform all aspects of every prevention strategy implemented. Rather,
the RPE Coordinator must engage and support members of the NC State
community to take ownership for planning, implementing, and sustaining
prevention efforts to the extent possible. The RPE Coordinator is
expected to keep current with national trends in the field and help
educate the campus community about those trends. Although this position
is not intended to work with or provide victim/survivor services, the
RPE Coordinator will be prepared to encounter disclosures of sexual and
relationship violence and refer individuals who disclose to the
appropriate campus or community resources. Specific duties of the
position are listed in the NCSU online job posting at
http://jobs.ncsu.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=84880.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
While a Master’s degree is preferred, a Bachelor’s degree is required
and sufficient with the condition that the individual is accepted into a
Master’s degree program within two-and-a-half years of start date.
Minimum of one year’s experience in sexual violence prevention and/or
services (paid or volunteer) required. Position requires strong
understanding of sexual violence in a college community, strong program
facilitation skills, and ability to work with both men and women to plan
and implement prevention programs. Strong interpersonal, communication,
organizational and writing skills are essential, as is the ability to
build collaborative partnerships with diverse stakeholders. Must
possess strong listening and empathy skills and be able to provide
mentoring to students as well as referrals to survivors in a respectful
and ethical manner.
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
Master’s degree preferred. One to two years of experience in program
development and/or teaching and two or more years in sexual violence
prevention and services (paid or volunteer) are strongly preferred. The
successful candidate will demonstrate comprehension of a broad range of
gender issues, including an understanding of how intersections of
oppression impact sexual violence prevention strategies, and be familiar
with college student development and university systems. Some
experience working with interpersonal violence issues in a university
setting preferred as is the ability to tailor prevention programs to
different audiences (e.g. GLBTQQI community, students of color,
faith-based groups). Knowledge of and experience with peemodels, marketing,
public speaking, collaboration, program design, and
program evaluation are assets.
