Elon University Sexual Assault Responders (2 Temporary Positions)
 Position Description
 
This position is part of the student emergency response system in the
Division of Student Life at Elon University.  The position will report
to the Coordinator for Personal Health Programs and Community
Well-Being.    
The positions of Sexual Assault Responder are temporary independent
contractor positions (August 15-December 15, 2009) designed to serve as
the primary response persons for immediate and follow-up response to
incidents of sexual and relationship violence that involve Elon
University students.  The individuals will coordinate long-term and
follow-up response with the Coordinator of Personal Health Programs and
Community Well-Being.  The position requires on-call response 24 hours a
day, seven days a week as assigned during the contract period. The
positions will share the response duties on alternating or otherwise
scheduled weeks and compensation will be made for those weeks for which
the person is actually on-call. 
 
Responsibilities: These responsibilities include but are not limited
to:
 Be accessible by cell phone at all times during scheduled weeks
Respond to all calls for assistance or questions about resources
regarding sexual or relationship violence.  
Remain available for response to incidents of sexual or relationship
violence that involve Elon students at all times while on call during
the contract period.
In the event that an incident occurs, providing immediate (on-site
within 20 minutes) response to the victims following guidelines and
protocols established by the Office of Student Development ; response
may include, but is not limited to, meeting with the student immediately
and accompanying the student to the hospital or to meet with
legal/police  authorities.  The immediate response will be in
coordination with the Administrator On Call, the Dean on Rotation and
the Assistant Vice President of Student Life and Associate Dean of
Students; the Counselor on Call may also be involved if circumstances
warrant.
Provide follow-up resource and response as directed by the Coordinator
for Personal Health Programs and Community Well-Being and/or the
Assistant Vice President for Student Life;
Complete all necessary and required paperwork; filing reports
immediately following response with the Coordinator for Personal Health
Programs and Community Well-Being
Receive initial training on Elon University protocols and procedures.
Meet every other week with the Coordinator of Personal Health Programs
and Community Well-Being, or more frequently if conditions warrant.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, reporting dean, or
divisional Vice-President

 
Contractor Qualifications: High School diploma and a minimum of 20
certified and documentable hours insexual assault response training; One
to two years experience in responding to incidents of sexual assault and
sexual violence. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
Must have a valid NC driver’s license. Elon University will also conduct
a background check prior to entering into an agreement with an
independent contractor. 
 
Compensation:  The compensation package will include a weekly stipend
of $ 300.00  for each week served on call to cover 24 hour access and
response during the designated contract period,  and $ 50.00 per hour
for active onsiteresponse.   Payment will be made on a monthly basis. 
 
Any taxes, FICA, or other deductions which we are legally required to
make from the pay of regular employees will not be withheld from
payments.  As an independent contractor, the responders will not be
entitled to any fringe benefits that would be offered to regular
employees including unemployment insurance, medical insurance, pension
plans, and other benefits.
 
Throughout this project period the responders may be in contact with or
directly working with proprietary information which is important to Elon
University and the privacy of our students.  All information must be
treated with strict confidence and may not be used at any time or in any
manner in work you may do with others.
