Good morning, friends!
I'm not an academic, but I feel the need to know more data about men's
violence against women. Especially when the so-called "Father's Rights"
movement drags out the same studies over and over, to show that women abuse
men just as much as vice versa.
Have any of you heard of "flash cards" to help non-academics like me memorize
relevant statistics and studies? One side of the card could have "How many
women are victims of rape or attempted rape by the age of 18" and on the
other it could have "1 in 4" along with the date of the study, the authors,
the number of women surveyed, etc.
I wish I could say I'll read all the studies out there, but the reality is I
have the attention span of a puppy. A more realistic solution for me (maybe
for you?) is to at least know the major components of the major, respected
studies on the topic.
Perhaps a state coalition somewhere has created these for their member
programs. Perhaps a Woman's Studies professor has created them for the
students in their Violence Against Women class. If such cards exist
somewhere, I'd love to pay for a copy. If they don't, I'd love to team up
with someone who knows the relevant literature - I'll try to transfer your
knowledge into "card form," and make the cards available to anyone who wants
them.
Until the violence stops, Ben.
