Because so much of my work is affected by politics, identity politics and
other ways of "grouping" I wonder if anyone has thought through how to
affirmatively involve "others" in the activism of one's group -
Language and framing seem to be two obvious ways of constructing ideas for
communicating differently - but even the issue of whether a male should be in
the lead on a conversation about anti-VAW seems hard to describe with clarity
when i see a married heterosexual person leading a conversation about gay
rights - a big part of me feels thrilled - maybe so much so i don't listen to
what might be harmful in the style of language of that person's leadership -
this is my personal bias - in favor of transcending hard lines in groups,
even though i understand that one person's transcending is another's
dissipation of group power -
are there successful models?? how do we even measure success?
i know lani guinier teaches intersectionality - and i had the pleasure of
being involved in a part of her class - but i ahve to say - it was hard stuff
for me and I'm still struggling to get a handle on the concepts
