The Violence Prevention Alliance is a volunteer-based committee of campus
and community leaders who are dedicated to:

•       Promoting efforts to prevent victimization of USA students, faculty,
staff, and community members
•       Identifying appropriate interventions aimed at reducing violence
•       Providing educational programs that address sexual victimization and
domestic violence
•       Providing coordinated campus response and support to victims of 
violence.

Our mission is to create and sustain a collaborative, comprehensive
community effort in reducing and eliminating violence, particularly sexual
victimization and harassment.

George Mason University Sexual Assault Services (SAS) is committed to
providing direct services for survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and
dating/ partner violence and offering education about these topics to the
university community. All services are available to survivors, and to
their families, significant others, and friends at no cost. We are here
for anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence, regardless of gender,
age, ability, race, color or orientation. We are dedicated to helping
create a world in which our services are no longer needed.

About Us
The George Mason University Sexual Assault Services office was created on
December 1, 1993. Since then, Sexual Assault Services has expanded to
serve students at all three campuses of George Mason University. With the
support of the Violence Against Women Act, Sexual Assault Services has two
staff members funded by a V-STOP Grant, the V-STOP Grant administered by
the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. This grant has been
awarded to Sexual Assault Services yearly since 1997. Sexual Assault
Services has also been the recipient of grant funding from the Centers for
Disease Control administered by the Virginia Department of Health for the
prevention of sexual violence on the college campus. Five such grants have
been awarded to Sexual Assault Services.
The services Sexual Assault Services offers to students include:
•       A comprehensive response to all reports of sexual assault and the
related issues of stalking and dating/domestic violence
•       A primary resource for a student reporting both recent and past
incidents—including crisis intervention and referrals
•       Information on sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and
relationship violence to survivors, as well as to students doing research
for class assignments
•       Trained student Peer Companions to provide assistance and support to
student survivors
•       Psychological, medical, legal and judicial support and information
•       Academic intervention and emergency housing assistance
•       Educational programs
Confidentiality of services
Sexual Assault Services is here to provide a safe space in which to meet
the needs of our clients and will make every effort to preserve our
clients' privacy. Information will be shared by members of the Sexual
Assault Services staff, so that we may better serve our clients and
provide them the services they request and/or require. Incidents of sexual
assault that occur on campus are recorded for federal statistical
purposes, without use of identifying information (i.e. names, initials, or
contact information).

Purpose of Subcommitte:

        To serve as the Campus Coordinated Response to Violence 
Against
women (sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking).  This
coordinated response includes prevention and intervention professionals,
students, campus staff/faculty, and community members.  To serve as the
advisory body to the “Community Problems, Community Solutions” grant
project (below)

        To serve as in an advisory capacity to relevant campus and
community offices regarding violence against women

        To empower subcommittee members to return to their own units 
as
professionals with expertise in the field of violence prevention and/or
intervention

        To provide and coordinate professional development and
coordinated, consistent educational messages to students, faculty, staff,
and community members

        To gather information, data, and our own experiences about how
UW-Madison addresses violence against women and conduct evaluation of
these efforts

“Community Problems, Community Solutions:  Building Capacity to End
Violence Against Women at UW-Madison” Grant Project Goals:

1: Further develop first year student prevention education programming and
support student prevention education efforts throughout the rest of the
collegiate experience

2: Enhance and formalize training modules with local victim service
providers specific to law enforcement personnel and judicial affairs
officers

3: Increase student access to community based victim advocacy services in
the areas of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and
stalking

4: Improve the campus coordination of violence prevention services

History and Overview of the Subcommittee:

The University Subcommittee on Sexual Assault (the subcommittee) was
formed in 1999 as a subset of the Dane County Community Coordinated
Response to Sexual Assault (CCRSA), one of five county-wide committees
on violence that report to the Commission on Sensitive Crimes (DA's
Office).  In 2004, the subcommittee added a focus on dating/domestic
violence and stalking.   The subcommittee meets monthly; membership is
voluntary and open.  The Subcommittee serves as a networking and
consultation body in an advisory capacity.  It is not an oversight body.

Stonehill College
SHARE Mission Statement

At Stonehill College, we believe that every individual has the right to be
treated with respect and dignity and we support the creation and
maintenance of a safe and positive living and learning environment. To
that end, the SHARE (Sexual Harassment/Assault Resources and Education)
Committee was formed with the mission of education Stonehill Community
members regarding sexual violence through awareness and prevention
initiatives. In addition, the SHARE Committee is responsible for
coordinating and providing the SHARE Advisor Program, which provides
support and advice to Stonehill students who have experience sexual
assault and/or to those community members accused of sexual assault.

Miami University of Ohio

Here at Miami we have two various groups that might be similar to what you
are creating. First, since my position is new on campus about twice a
semester those that have been involved in sexual assault
training/education before my time come together to 'advise' me and
basically serve as a sounding board. If I have programming questions I
bring them to this group. We do not have a formal charge for this group,
in fact I tend to see it phasing out as I become more situated and as my
understanding on the hx of sexual assault on this campus grows.

Another group that meets about 3 times a year is called the 'Sexual
Assault Interest Group', this group is comprised of both community and
campus police forces, local rape crisis agency, members of the counseling
center, women's center director, judicial affairs representative, local
therapist specializing in rape victims, myself, and county's prosecutor
(rep. from the office). In addition to sharing specifically what each
office does we discuss the outcomes of recent cases and what as a group
could be done about it. Unfortunately, this group does not have a formal
charge either.
