Injury and Violence Prevention Branch

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of
Public Health

 

TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

 

 

The Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) seeks a temporary
employee to provide support for the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE)
Program and Program Manager.  This temporary full-time position will
begin by 03/01/09 and continue at least through 5/31/2011. The IVPB will
provide a work space (cubicle) and expects the temporary employee to
work on-site in the Raleigh office except when job duties require work
elsewhere.  

 

Salary range/hours: $15 - $25/hour depending on experience, 40 hours per
week.

 

Please note:  This temporary position does not include benefits or paid
vacation/sick leave.  

 

Activities

 

*       Use Survey Monkey to 1) analyze survey results from agencies
providing sexual violence prevention programming and services (survey
already completed) and 2) coordinate and analyze survey results from
agencies providing other types of prevention programming (survey not yet
conducted)
*       Assist with planning and coordination of focus groups to collect
data related to sexual violence from and about specific populations;
lead/facilitate focus groups; lead qualitative data analysis
*       Conduct key informant interviews to collect data related to
sexual violence from and about specific populations; lead qualitative
data analysis
*       Provide technical assistance on community assessments to new
grantees of the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Program
*       Provide technical assistance on the implementation of sexual
violence primary prevention strategies
*       Conduct literature searches, as needed
*       Assist RPE grantees with task force development and community
mobilization
*       Develop evaluation tools for use by RPE grantees 
*       Monitor local contract for adherence to requirements and
deliverables

 

Qualifications

 

      Required:

 

*       Good written and interpersonal communication skills
*       Familiar with and understands primary prevention concepts
*       Qualitative research skills, including:

        *       Focus group, recruitment, implementation, and analysis
        *       Key informant interview skills

*       Experience with conducting a community assessment
*       Experience providing technical assistance 
*       Experience doing literature searches
*       Experience working with community groups (e.g., task force
development, coalition building, community mobilization, etc.)
*       Experience developing basic evaluation tools 
*       Flexibility and the ability to adapt to project needs
*       Independent, self-motivated worker
*       Has own transportation (car) for use to carry out job tasks
*       Bachelor's degree

 

Preferred:

 

*       Prior experience working in the field of sexual violence 
*       Quantitative skills (e.g., basic statistical analyses), previous
use of Internet based survey tool to organize and analyze survey
responses)
*       Prior experience developing and providing training
*       Basic understanding of public health principles
*       Master's degree
