Hi, folks!  My friend Jill Morris, the Director of Communications for the
Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape, has asked me to forward this message:

President-elect Obama's team has created a web site asking individuals
to submit ideas for change and below is a link regarding ending sexual
violence.

They are going to look at the top 3 ideas related to violence against women,
and currently ending sexual violence is in 6th place (it was in 9th place
earlier!)

Please weigh in and spread the word on this one.

Get Serious about ending sexual violence!

http://www.change.org/ideas/view/get_serious_about_ending_sexual_violence

According to Lynne Walter from the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual
Assault, Obama's team didn't create the website, Change.org did.  But the
"winners" will still be presented to the Obama administration on Inauguration
Day, so it's still worth voting for!

My vote was #139 earlier today - now they're up to 189.  If they get 54 more
votes, the idea makes it into the second round.

Thanks, all!

Until the violence stops, Ben.

Subject: Registration Now Open for MCSR's April Conference: Men and Women as
Allies

                              Dear Friends,

Men Can Stop Rape, Inc. is pleased to invite
you to join us at our conference, "Men and Women as Allies: National
Conference on Primary Prevention of Violence Against Women."

This conference will take place this April
14-15, 2009 at the deluxe Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in
Washington, DC.

As we enter a time of change, it is an
opportune moment to engage the new administration. You will hear keynotes
from new appointees and participate in federal briefings.

We also believe it is time for a new
conversation about prevention of violence against women based on some tough,
hard questions. What are women's and men's roles in primary prevention? How
can domestic violence, sexual assault, and men's anti-violence groups work
together to advance prevention?

We will meet these and other challenging
questions head on, seeking informed and constructive answers.

Your participation will help to create a
conference climate that is inspirational, motivational, and collaborative.

We look forward to seeing you in April!

                              Sincerely,

A new sexual violence applied research document has been posted to the
VAWnet website:

The Relationship Between Alcohol Consumption and Sexual Victimization

by Jeanette Norris, VAWnet: The National Online Resource Center on
Violence Against Women (December 2008)

This Applied Research paper examines the relationship between alcohol
and sexual victimization. The paper focuses on victims' experiences,
including resistance during and psychological effects subsequent to
alcohol-involved sexual assault incidents.

This paper serves as a companion piece to the previous VAWnet document:

Alcohol and Sexual Violence Perpetration

by Antonia Abbey with contributions from Lydia Guy Ortiz

VAWnet: The National Online Resource Center on Violence Against Women

December 2008

This Applied Research paper examines the frequent co-occurrence of
alcohol and sexual violence perpetration. Identifying the different ways
alcohol relates to perpetration can aid in the development of effective
sexual violence prevention strategies.
