Responding to Sexual Violence on Campus
        
On September 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. (eastern time), in commemoration of
National Campus Safety Awareness Month , the Office for Victims of Crime
(OVC) will present a Web Forum discussion with S. Daniel Carter and
Margaret Mikkelsen on best practices for responding to sexual violence
on campus. Mr. Carter is the Senior Vice President of Security On
Campus, Inc. (SOC), a national nonprofit organization exclusively
devoted to assisting victims of violence on college campuses and
improving campus security. He has extensive experience as a victims'
rights advocate and serves as an instructor for the Jeanne Clery Act
Training Program, funded by OVC. Ms. Mikkelsen is the Executive Director
of Students Active for Ending Rape (SAFER), a national nonprofit
organization dedicated to reforming college sexual assault policies and
empowering students to hold colleges and universities accountable for
sexual assault. She is a member of the steering committee for the Office
on Violence Against Women's Grants to Reduce Violent Crimes Against
Women on Campus Program.
