Hi Lee,

A Long Walk Home has a presentation specifically on sexual assault in study
abroad programs.  Maybe you could contact them for ideas?
http://www.alongwalkhome.org/SOARS.htm

Here are some other suggestions:

Basic info on SA
http://www.csbsju.edu/internationaleducation/home/sexualassault.htm
Study abroad handbook w a section on sexual assault
http://www.studyabroad.iastate.edu/Faculty/fieldManual.pdf
Safety for women travelers
http://www.transitionsabroad.com/publications/magazine/0311/safety_issues_for_women.shtml
Sexual Harassment and Study Abroad- some great info on boundaries
http://www.globaled.us/safeti/v1n2_newport.html
SAFETI Rape Response Handbook (for faculty/admin/program staff)
http://www.globaled.us/peacecorps/rape.html

Hope this helps!

PS- I studied abroad myself while in college and experienced sexual
harassment in my host country.  It's heartening to hear that your university
incorporates info on this critical topic into their orientation.
Unfortunately, this is an all too common experience for many women no matter
where they are, but being in a new place AND experiencing victimization is a
real challenge.  Does the university have a re-entry/debriefing program for
students returning from abroad?  If so, it would be ideal to have a SA/SH
component then, too, in hopes of reaching any students who may have
experienced these crimes abroad but never disclosed or are struggling to make
sense of their experiences.

Does anyone have a good handout or program for your student's traveling
abroad on short or long trips?  I get only 10 minutes to talk with them
specifically about risk reduction to sexual assault (both acquaintance
and stranger) but can put handouts in their packets.  I have lots of
general information but am looking for something that may be more
specific for this group.

I'd appreciate any materials people have successfully used or resources
you could refer me to.
