National nonprofit mobilizing young men to prevent violence against
women will benefit from Stephen Glaude's outstanding leadership skills

WASHINGTON, DC - The Board of Directors of Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR)
unanimously selected and approved former Deputy Undersecretary at HUD
and national organization leader Stephen Glaude to be the next executive
director, the first to follow in the footsteps of the co-founders who
established the organization ten years ago. He started work January 2,
2008. Co-founder and executive director Patrick Lemmon resigned August
2007.

 

"We are thrilled to have Stephen Glaude step into the position of
executive director," says MCSR Board President Heather Peeler. "Not only
will his outstanding leadership abilities be instrumental in crafting a
more expansive future for the organization, his strong passion for the
issue of preventing violence against women will bring a new, important
voice to the movement."

 

"I couldn't be more excited about my appointment as executive director
of Men Can Stop Rape," Glaude says. "The issue of sexual assault affects
every American family as well as every international community. While we
must continue to support services for victims of sexual assault and
domestic violence, we must heighten efforts to prevent these offenses
from occurring. Men have a responsibility to reach other men about the
healthy alternatives to violence and abuse." 

 

Mr. Glaude has extensive experience in the management and development of
national non-profit organizations and was founder and President of SG
and Associates, which provided fundraising, strategic planning, and
organizational development technical assistance to nonprofit
organizations nationally. He was the first African-American to serve as
President of the National Congress for Community Economic Development
and to serve as executive director of the National Association of
Neighborhoods. In both organizations, he replaced founders and says
following in the footsteps of MCSR founders Patrick Lemmon and Jonathan
Stillerman, "I am humbled and challenged to build on the founding vision
which created Men Can Stop Rape and look forward to expanding the
exemplary work done by the organization thus far."

 

Former government positions - Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community
Planning and Development at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development and Special Assistant to the President in the Office of
National Drug Control Policy - involved responsibility for non-profit
organizational capacity development. His duties at the White House
centered around drug demand reduction efforts with a particular focus on
strengthening the capacity of non-profit organizations to rid local
communities of substance abuse and violence.

movement to mobilize young men in the prevention of violence against
women. MCSR's Strength Campaign, a comprehensive, multi-faceted public
education and community outreach program, has been hailed as a national
model. Its school-based component, the Men of Strength Club, has earned
acclaim from the National Crime Prevention Council. Strength Mediaworks,
widely recognized as the nation's best-designed and most effective
public service advertising

sexual-assault-prevention outreach to young men, has inspired men around
