Hi All,
A couple of weeks ago I asked what folks were doing in regard to bystander
approaches for violence prevention on their campuses. I did not get a lot of
responses, but what i did get was great. Thanks!
I said I would post a summary and meant to do so sooner, but you know how the
beginning of the semester can get away from you. So, below are responses.

at Grand Valley State in MI, they have a really
great Peer Education group called Eyes Wide Open. It really encourages
students to move from bystander behavior to an interventionist.
The Florida Dept. of Health came out with a great video loop and a
poster campaign in 2005 that included by-standers. A good place to also
check is the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence website for
information on that.
We are starting to create a program like this at Oberlin College so I'd
welcome forwards from other schools. BTW, we do have something called "THE
PEACEKEEPERS" that attend large venues and look out for student safety. AND
we are creating an electronic bystander empowerment program (to perhaps
intersect w/student behavior on line, etc.).
I am doing some really great stuff over at NCSU that has seemed to be
quite successful. I am attaching the description of the program that I
do and the case scenarios. There are a variety of scenarios that I pick
and choose from, some tailored with Greek language, some for RA's, etc.
I am also attaching my pre/post test taht I administer. I just started
this activity this semester, and people really really like it-I haven't
had a chance to go through all of my pre/post tests, but there are very
clear differences just by briefly looking at them.
