VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTITUTIONAL DIVERSITY AND EQUITY

DARTMOUTH COLLEGE

Dartmouth College, one of the nation's oldest, most prestigious and diverse 
institutions of higher education in the Ivy League, seeks a vice president 
for institutional diversity and equity (VPIDE) to build upon its considerable 
efforts to date.  Newly elevated to vice presidential status, the VPIDE is 
responsible for the creation, implementation, and coordination of programs 
that both enhance Dartmouth's diversity profile and continue the development 
of a teaching and learning environment in which diversity is integral.

The vice president will report jointly to the president and the provost and 
will serve as a member of the President's Executive Council.  Critical to his 
or her success will be the relationships forged across the campus, including 
especially the academic, co-curricular, and administrative units.  In this 
effort, the vice president will be aided by the Dartmouth College Council on 
Diversity, which consists of the college's most senior deans and vice 
presidents and is therefore well positioned to assist in the development and 
the execution of a university-wide strategy to enhance diversity and equity.  
The vice president will directly supervise the office of institutional 
diversity and equity and will manage and allocate a diversity venture fund to 
seed new diversity and equity initiatives.

The vice president will be an experienced and successful leader, manager, and 
effective communicator with a distinguished record of increasingly 
responsible leadership.  He or she will possess significant assessment and 
planning skills with a track record for having implemented ambitious and 
creative programs; a collaborative leadership style; familiarity with the 
latest research and pedagogy in areas of diversity and equity; an abiding 
commitment to higher education and to excellence in teaching, research, and 
service; considerable diplomatic and political skills; exceptional 
communications and relationship-building skills; and, of course, a deep 
commitment to diversity and equity.
