Thanks, Joanne. Yes, we’ve been in touch with people in the field,
and are starting to hear about specific cases.
Do you happen to know states / particular police departments that are
known for still requesting polygraphs from complainants?
Thank you for your help,
Kelley Shields

Subject: Polygraphing of sexual assault victims
Hello Joanne -
I am working on a possible story for a national television news program
on the practice of polygraphing sexual assault victims.
We have found in our research that due to the grant provisions in the
2005 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, many states have
passed laws prohibiting this practice. And although several people we
have spoken with have said that they are concerned about this and
believe that it still goes on, we have not yet heard of any specific
cases where a complainant has recently been asked or required to submit
to a polygraph exam.
Do you happen to know of any recent instances of this happening? Do
you believe that it is still an issue?
Thank you very much for your help,
Kelley Shields
