Hi All,
I just decided I am going to NWSA and would like to use the opportunity
to conduct some interviews for my current study. If you are going to
NWSA please read my official invitation below and let me know if you'd
like to participate in an interview at NWSA.
Thanks,
Molly
This letter is an invitation to participate in a study I am conducting
entitled "Communities Resisting: Working to End Intimate Partner
Violence and Abuse".
The study investigates the ways that resistance to and support for work
against woman abuse have changed over time. I am seeking volunteers who
do anti-violence work to interview about:
-Your perceptions of resistance to and support for your work against
woman abuse
-How these have changed over time
-Sources of resistance to your work
-Sources of support for your work
-Tactics that you are seeing used to harass you or undermine your work
-The impact that this is having
The possible benefits of this study include empirical documentation of
your concerns and issues affecting your work that may be useful for
future collaboration between agencies, seeking funding opportunities or
advocacy work. This study is important because advocates and service
providers have been reporting new and harmful forms of resistance to
their work, and it would be helpful to under stand what these are and
the impact they are having.
I am seeking service providers and advocates to interview because you
have firsthand knowledge of the issues that you face in the course of
your everyday work against violence.
Participation in this study is voluntary. It would involve an interview
of approximately one to two hours either on the telephone or in person.
You may decline to answer any questions you wish, and you may decide to
end your participation in this study at any time. I would like to
digitally record the interview in order to facilitate transcription.
After the interview has been transcribed, I will send you a copy of the
transcript in order for you to confirm its accuracy and to allow you to
clarify remarks as you see fit. All information you provide will be kept
completely confidential. Neither your name nor your organization's name
will appear in any publication resulting from the study, however,
quotations may be used with a pseudonym. Data collected during this
study will be stored in a locked filing cabinet in my office and in my
password protected computer. Your identifying information will be stored
separately in a different locked filing cabinet and will be coded to
protect your confidentiality. Only myself and my research assistant will
have access to the interviews. I will delete all recordings following
transcription and verification and delete all emails following
completion of the study. Since I will protect your confidentiality, no
one forwarding you this email or anyone else that you work with will
know if you choose to participate in the study or not.
If you would like more information or are interested in participating in
the study, please call me at 905 721 3111 x 2957 or email me at
.
I would like to assure you that this study has been reviewed and
received ethics clearance through the Research Ethics Board at the
University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and has been assigned
file number 06-055.
I look forward to hearing from you if you would be willing to be
interviewed for the study. Thank you very much for your interest and
assistance.
Best,
Dr. Molly Dragiewicz
