Reporting directly to the Executive Director for Health, Wellness and
Counseling Services, the Director of Counseling Services is the overall
administrator and coordinator of Counseling Services, which provides a
broad spectrum of counseling, consultative, evaluative, teaching,
training and research functions.  The Director will have extensive
cooperative and collaborative relationships with students, faculty and
staff within the University and will be professionally active.

Health, Wellness and Counseling Services is an academic support
service, seamlessly integrating medical, counseling and wellness
services to optimize the health of students and the campus community. 
Healthier students and campus communities facilitate learning, enhance
academic achievement and improve retention rates.  This is an
outstanding opportunity for a visionary leader who is passionate about
the mental health of students thus contributing to their retention and
graduation from the university, possesses proven management skills and
experience, and has the ability to facilitate program development to
enhance psychosocial development and the emotional well-being of
students.

Major Responsibilities:
*       Program Management: leading staff in establishing program
priorities, goals, and objectives; providing leadership in the design of
program policies and procedures congruent with University goals,
consistent with professional standards, and responsive to the changing
needs of students; encouraging and facilitating the implementation of
new programs to improve the scope and quality of services offered;
supervising clinical record keeping and information to insure
appropriate standard of care; and managing staff in data collection,
statistics on program delivery, and evaluation of programs and
services.
*       Counseling/Psychological Services: providing consultation to
students, faculty, staff, administration, and parents on a variety of
psychological issues and problems; consulting with counseling staff
members on clinical issues as needed, especially those concerning danger
to self or others; supervising interns at the masters, post-masters,
pre-doctoral, and post-doctoral level; and maintaining a counseling
workload, particularly for emergency and critical cases.
*       Campus and Community Relations: maintaining a close working
relationship with Medical Services and Wellness Services colleagues on
broad programmatic issues and fostering a team approach with specific
issues; consulting and working closely with staff in Student Affairs,
Administration and Finance and academic departments in developing and
implementing preventative mental health programs and services for
students; performing outreach activities such as workshops, trainings,
and presentations on psychological topics; developing effective
relationships with off-campus mental health services; work with the
Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities to establish appropriate
protocols and procedures whereby students who are at risk of harm to
self or others may receive appropriate assistance to remain or leave
campus (which may include helping to outline requirements for returning
to campus), and serving on appropriate campus committees.
*       Personnel Management: selecting, training, and evaluating staff;
negotiating faculty/counselor exchanges with academic departments;
maintaining open communications and informing staff of administrative
decisions, policies, and expectations; facilitating staff professional
development; and providing mediation and conflict resolution for
faculty, staff, and students.
*       Budget Management: planning and prioritizing the budget for
Counseling Services; resource allocation and management; and
articulating budget needs.

Required Qualifications:
*       Minimum of five years leadership/director level counseling
services experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
*       Doctorate in counseling psychology, clinical psychology,
counselor education, or a related discipline.
*       Eligibility for licensure in the State of Idaho.
*       Experience in providing brief individual and group
psychotherapy, crisis response management, and effective teaching,
training and supervision.
*       Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
*       Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate and work
collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
*       Commitment to and skills in assessing relevant student learning
outcomes.

Salary and Benefits: 
The Director of Counseling Services is a professional full-time
position. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Boise State
