Mr. Lazzarini,
The piece I posted was titled an Op-Ed. "Op" is short for opinion. In
addition, my second paragraph read, in part:
"Here’s what I think. These are just my opinions, informed by what I have
learned so far in the reportage on what happened at Virginia Tech. Because
that coverage is inaccurate and incomplete, please consider these my
thoughts
so far, subject to revision as more facts come to light."
If these two things do not adequately couch my views as opinion, rather than
expression of expertise, I don't know what does. I've never claimed to be
an expert on guns, but that does not deprive me of a right to an opinion, no
matter how uninformed you find it to be. You claim a wide knowledge of
research, but still seem to confuse well-trained professionals such as
yourself
with your average gun-toting college student. You can be an expert and
still
not be very credible, apparently.
Your vehemence, coupled with the fact that you are armed, is just plain
scary. I posted on topics of general interest, and you are now trying to
use
this list for a broad discussion of a narrow topic my Op-Ed touched on.
This is
not a gun discussion listserv. I am sure you belong to plenty of those. I
apologize to the members of this list for catalyzing your diatribes.
For you to capitalize on the tragedies at VA Tech to propagate your pro-gun
views and advance the notion that we ought to arm college students (I wonder
how many professors would teach in any classroom where they knew students
were carrying firearms?) strikes me as insensitive, to say the least.
I corresponded with you off-list, and wish you would confine this dialogue
to that venue. Please stop posting to this list about guns.
