Mr. Lazzarini,
I support and appreciate your First Amendment right to explain your
perspective. I'm just not as thrilled with your vehemence for the Second
Amendment.
Thank you for your argument about penises. Are you suggesting that we arm
all potential victims on campus with one so that they may defend themselves
with it when an offending penis assaults them?
I find it interesting that you make community-based arguments for guns as
deterrents, and then ask why campuses are different. Well, why are schools
different, then? Don't you want some well-armed school children to be able
to
defend themselves, too? Gun crime on college campuses is less than
one-tenth
that of the general population. Have you considered that is because of our
almost universal weapons bans on campuses?
You assume most gun owners are trained and skilled. What training did Mr.
Cho receive that made him so safe with his Glock? I find that when
politically charged arguments are made, zealous advocates tend to attack
people rather
than their ideas. You did that quite a bit in your email, addressing
questions of my expertise and background. I'll take the high road and
respect your
opinion and its source. I assure you I'm qualified to hold an opinion. All
of us are. But, I don't have your qualifications and experience to hold a
gun. Neither do most of the students on the campuses I serve.
