Dear Colleagues,
My name is Salamishah Tillet and I am the Program Director of the 501 (c) 3
non-profit organization, A Long Walk Home, Inc. (ALWH). I am writing because
we would like to update you on our new SOARS (Story of A Rape Survivor)
programs and express our interest to participate in your 2006-2007 sexual
assault prevention programs.
SOARS, a culturally-diverse sexual assault program, is comprised of a two
hour performance, keynote lectures, workshops, and curriculums designed to
train professionals, to facilitate individual and community healing from, and
to increase public awareness about sexual violence and support services.
For the last four years we have worked with state coalitions like Washington
Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs (WCSAP), California Coalition Against
Sexual Assault (CALCASA), and National Sexual Violence Resource Center
(NSVRC) and universities such as Harvard University, University of Alabama,
Bryn Mawr and the University of Chicago to provide safe, entertaining, and
culturally-diverse sexual assault prevention trainings, community outreach
programs and campus forums.
Please visit our website at www.alongwalkhome.org in order to get a
comprehensive listing of our workshops and programs. It features a detailed
press packet for download of the SOARS performance, trainings, and lectures
including Using Art to Heal from Sexual Assault, Race, Media and Sexual
Assault, and Campus Safety and Sexual Assault workshops.
The mission of A Long Walk Home, Inc. is to use art therapy, the visual and
performance arts, and cultural studies to document, to educate, and to bring
about social change by helping victims of trauma heal and increasing public
awareness about violence reduction models and activities. We use the
testimonies, poetry, music, photographs, and videos of and by women and
children to provide safe and entertaining forums through which the public can
learn about healing from trauma.
Feel free to email me at
or call me at 877-571-1751 with your questions and comments. Please note we
are currently booking our engagements for 2006-2007.
I want to thank you for your present commitment to anti-violence movement and
please note that I sincerely hope to collaborate with you in the future.
Best regards,
Salamishah Tillet
Program Director
