June 2006 quote: "We must begin to understand not only that there is an
urgent need to change the world but that we have the power to do so."

As Information & Resource Worker for Rape Crisis Scotland, I put
together our quarterly publication Rape Crisis News. Our August
issue will be looking at rape in an international context, and I
hope to bring together many views and experiences from a range of
different countries and the perspectives of individuals, rape crisis
centres and other support agencies working within them. If you would
like to contribute to this, I'd love to hear from you.
The length of the piece would be entirely up to you, though I would
really need to receive it by no later than 21st July. The subject
and direction of your piece would also be entirely your own decision
but could include information and views on:
Scale of the problem in your country/state, including any
statistical information
Societal attitudes within your country/state to sexual violence &
any factors relating to this that are peculiar to it
Support agencies to help survivors of rape & sexual assault - how
many/where are these/ how are they organized/funded? Are they run
entirely by volunteers or by paid workers or a combination of these?
Do they support men as well as women? Where are the gaps in service
that need to be filled?
Background information on your organisation - what kind of support
do you offer (if you do offer support)
Do you undertake any outreach or educational/research activities or
other projects?
What kind of support (financial/practical etc) do you get for this?
What kind of problems/resistance have you encountered?
Events you know of/have organized/taken part in?
Materials you use and messages you are trying to convey
Advice you would give to workers in other countries who might be
thinking of beginning similar work
These are just meant to be suggestions - not at all prescriptive -
you will know what best to include and what is most relevant to your
own situation and experience.
If you are interested in writing a piece for this issue, please get
in touch with me off-list at
Many thanks,
Eileen
