Dear Colleagues,
I am thrilled to share with you the fruits of the efforts of many of us here at William and Mary to create a new position of Sexual Assault Educator. Dr. Donna Haygood-Jackson, our Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, and I have been working through all of the different processes needed to create this new position on our campus. These efforts have now come to fruition. This position opens at a very exciting time in the life of our institution. First, William and Mary has a new President who has been an outspoken advocate of sexual assault education, and who personally created this new position. Second, our Vice President for student affairs has said publicly to the media that he expects that more rapes will be reported at our institution as we increase our educational efforts (though of course we all hope fewer actually happen; of course having an administrator make such a comment to the media is gutsy). In addition, we now have over 50 students involved in the two sexual assault peer education groups on our campus, Every Two Minutes (for women, and One in Four (for men). W&M also houses the national offices for One in Four, which affords many opportunities for exciting collaborative efforts.
The person who enters this newly created position will lead the efforts to create a new peer advocate program and will co-advise our all-female peer education program, along with several other related duties. The position reports to Dr. Donna Haygood Jackson, our Sexual Assault Response Coordinator who is a Psychologist in our counseling center and is a terrific person with whom to work. Those interested are encouraged to apply soon. The job posting is below.
