Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Prevention/Intervention Specialist
REPORTS TO: Program Director & Program Coordinators
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Following completion of state-certified 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocate
Training, the prevention/intervention specialist conducts prevention
workshops and acts as a primary support source for victims of sexual assault
and/or their significant others, as well as survivors of childhood sexual
assault. This position aims to empower victims in their recovery of
traumatic events to aid in their ability to heal from sexual violence.
JOB DUTIES:
Intervention responsibilities include: providing crisis intervention to
hotline callers; offering peer-counseling to victims of sexual assault and
their significant others; accompanying victims at the hospital as they go
through a forensic medical exam; serving as an advocate for sexual assault
victims throughout the reporting and investigative process and legal system;
and sharing responsibility for 24-hour on-call response.
Prevention Responsibilities include: facilitating educational workshops in
assault prevention for diverse community groups, including K-12; educating
community members on the realities of sexual assault; participating in
community awareness events; assisting in the facilitation of the bi-annual
40-hour Sexual Assault Advocate Training; supervising and working with rape
crisis volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Excellent organizational, communication and public speaking skills are
essential; as well as an ability to work with diverse groups, including
high-risk youth and law enforcement. Good listening and interpersonal
skills a must. Requires flexibility to work individually and be a team
player. Ability to take initiative and partake in different office
projects.
Previous experience in a crisis intervention or social services environment
is preferred. A valid California drivers' license and a car available for
business use are required. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft
Office proficiency, are a plus. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
desired. Bi-lingual Spanish highly preferred.
HOURS: Full-time; some weekend and evening work required.
SALARY: $34,000 with benefits
