This is an outrage! -- the definition of hate-based motivation in this
report does NOT include gender -
thus -- it is no surprised that the dopes who write this claim there is
no notable difference between the sexes as to whether women or men
suffer more "hate crimes".
Note also the preposterous claim that "most hate crimes ACCOMPANIED
violent crimes SUCH AS RAPE --" --- how insulting that the nature of an
essential hate crime is somehow only an "accompaniment" in this study!!
where is the outrage --
think about this --
if a black woman is raped based on race -- or a gay woman is raped
based on sexuality -- it is a HATE CRIME
but if a woman is targeted for rape AND in FACT raped BASED ON
SEX/GENDER, it is NOT a HATE CRIME.
where is the outrage!? Why are activists consistently impotent on this
issue?
What would rape crisis center activists say if such a report
demonstrated that black or gay victims were overrepresented in the
class of people suffering sexual violence -- but the report found the
race and sexual orientation of the victims not even relevant enough to
measure?
It is no wonder the classic "activists" of the past are losing their
political power, voice, etc. They don't even speak up for the most
important form of gender prejudice (violence) on a basic issue such as
"why isn't anyone even MEASURING the problem as a discrimination issue
when violence targeted against virtually ever other class in society IS
being so measured?

The U.S. Department of Justice has just put on the web a report: "Hate
Crime Reported by Victims and Police."
According to the report, "Information is provided on the motivations for
hate crime as perceived by victims, the types of crimes which victims
thought were hate-related, reasons for reporting or not reporting hate
crimes to police, police response to victim's notification of a crime,
the
time and place at which hate crimes occurred and offenders' gender,
race,
age, relationship to the victim, use of weapons, and gang membership."
The report also note that: "Rates of hate crime are presented for
victims
by gender, race, ethnicity, age and other characteristics. The report
also
compares results from the NCVS and the UCR on motivations for hate
crime,
the types of crimes that involve hate, and the characteristics of
victims
and offenders."
Here are 3 of the report's findings:
* Most hate crimes described by victims accompanied violent crimes
- a
rape or other sexual assault, robbery, or assault (84%).
* In about half of hate crimes, the victim was threatened verbally
or
assaulted without either a weapon or an injury being involved
* In 41% of hate victimizations reported to police, law enforcement
was
at the scene within 10 minutes.
The report is available online at
