California Partnership to End Domestic Violence

(A Merger of the California Alliance Against Domestic Violence and the
Statewide California Coalition for Battered Women)

Presents

>From a Women's Problem to a Community Solution: Preventing Violence
Against Women

A two-day training for practioners, advocates, policymakers and other
decision-makers

Presented by: Prevention Institute - Oakland, CA

Violence against women results in physical and emotional harm. Without a
doubt, women who have been victimized need appropriate services and
responses. It is also vital to ensure that everything possible is done
to prevent sexual assault and battering from happening in the first
place. However, most efforts to address violence against women are
administered after violence has taken place. There is a growing body of
evidence that, in fact, violence against women can be prevented with
effective primary prevention approaches that address the underlying
factors that contribute to violence against women, such as gender norms.

This two-day training will focus on:

*         -  Effective primary prevention

*         -  Prevention approaches to address violence against women

*         -  Engaging and building community support

*         -  Strategies that advance primary prevention efforts

*         -  Tools to develop effective strategies and forge successful
partnerships
