I would like to tell you about a powerful activist, artist, and survivor
named Reanae McNeal.  She has gained international recognition as she has
traveled around the United States and the world speaking out and performing
one-woman shows around social issues especially as it pertains to violence
against women.  Her amazing ability to deal with the dynamics of racism,
sexism, and classism in a creative and healing way has gained her
international  acclaim.  She has been a featured artist in the national
women's newspaper Sojourner.

Reanae is an international speaker, award-winning playwright, performing
artist, and storyteller.  She is known for her acclaimed one-woman shows
Don't Speak My Mother's Name In Vain, which is about the herstory of rape
and sexual assault of African-American women and My Soul Got A Bruise On It
which is about domestic violence against diverse survivors and is based on
true stories..  She is applauded for her creative lectures that have been
interweaved with stories, songs, and poetry.  Reanae leaves a powerful
impression on students as she breaks her silence on being a sexual assault
and domestic violence survivor in college.

She has crossed cultural, gender, and racial barriers with her presentations
because of the powerful message of healing for all people inherent in her
work.  Former Sexual Abuse Awareness Program Coordinator Susan Marine at
Darmouth college states " In an hour and a half, Reanae made us laugh, cry,
think, and feel.  She is an amazingly astute artist with an eye for the
universal in the human experience, and a gift for briniging the incredibly
painful reality of violence against women home to everyone who "meets" the
characters she potrays."

Don't Speak My Mother's Name In Vain
This award-winning play deals with the herstory of rape and sexual assault
of African-American women through eight complex and fascinating characters.
It is a powerful one-woman play that uses vignettes, dance, and song to
trace the experiences of African-American women through a wide range of
herstorical contexts, linked by the thread of interpersonal and
institutional violence.  Reanae deals with the issues of racism, sexism,
classism, homophobia, slavery, the reconstruction era,  the Marcus Garvey
Movement, abortion, drug addiction, hate crimes, and healing.  Reanae takes
on a host of issues as she interweaves the stroy of rape and sexual assault
of African-American women from slavery to present day.  Through this play
she tells her own story of being a rape and sexual assault survivor in
college.  It's highly interactive and leaves a lasting impact on the
audience around violence against women and oppression.
