Position Opening
King County Sexual Assault Resource Center
Education Specialist


Function:       In concert with other education staff, insure a full range
of Educational Services is available to the community.  Major
responsibilities will be in information and awareness of sexual violence,
building skills in communities to address and eliminate sexual violence and
to facilitate social change in the prevention of sexual violence.
Hours:  35 hours per week/full time.  This position has the opportunity to
work a flex schedule. Generally, the position work hours are between 9:00am
- 5:00pm.  There will be occasions and certain projects that require evening
appointments.  This occurs 8-10 times per month. There will also be
occasions where there are weekend appointments or activities.  This occurs,
depending on the project, about 4-10 times per year.

Duties:
*       Assist and lead community development efforts to effect social
change in designated areas.
*       Mobilize community to facilitate progress towards agreed upon goals.
*       Develop and conduct Continuing Education Workshops and specialized
training.
*       Respond to and generate requests for community presentations on
information, awareness, and building skills to address and eliminate sexual
violence.
*       Provide consultation to community on sexual violence, prevention and
curriculum/training development.
*       Establish opportunities for personal emissary work to lay foundation
for future community development efforts.
*       Attend meetings and events to establish system coordination
throughout King County.
*       Create materials to address and inform on the topic of sexual
violence.
*       Provide outreach opportunities to the community when requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
*       BA/BS in related field plus two years relevant work experience or
six years relevant work experience which might include child development,
chemical dependency, and/or violence prevention.
*       Strong training skills, which include a minimum of two years
training or teaching of adults.
*       Ability to work independently and demonstrate a strong work
initiative.
*       Knowledge of and experience with culturally diverse populations.
*       Excellent oral and written communication skills.
*       Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member within the
department, the agency and community service providers.
*       Strong facilitation skills in working with groups of children, teen
and adults.
Preferred Qualifications:
*       Experience in working in a sexual assault center providing services
to victims or in conducting community education programs.

Position closes:  August 20th, 2003
Position start date: October 2003
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Salary Range: $28,000 - $30,000
